I'm Working that day also![]()
i work 8-7 everyday except fridays
Wednesdays are out for me too.
Since I don't schedule tournaments in Kansas, clearly I don't work with the folks at KDWP for permits. However, I see on their website that they require you to contact them 30 days in advance. Are they flexible on that timeline or do they pretty much stick to it? We may consider Perry next year since the weights have been impressive there this spring.
From the site:
Fishing Tournaments
If you plan to hold a competitive fishing tournament on department-managed lands or waters, you are required to obtain a special event permit. This includes tournaments launched from department facilities at state parks, state fishing lakes, or other department properties. You may also be required to pay a fee for the permit, depending on the size of the event and the services required. Please contact the area office, applicable to the event, at least 30 days prior to the tournament date(s) to determine what requirements apply.
I saw that in there also but when I held a tournament on Milford last saturday I went to the state park the day before and bought the permit to hold the tournament. So im not sure, maybe some lakes you need to buy it more then 30 days in advance but at Milford they don't seem to mind.
Good to know... Not sure what the LBC will want to do next year and I plan to pass the reigns to some new blood. I tend to schedule the lakes I want to target at the times I think they will produce... Probably time for someone else to put their two cents in.

No bass in Perry. They just got lucky.....
Bob they are usually pretty easy to get along with. Each state park handles their own permits, so there is some variation in fees, etc. Remember that if you're wanting to use bass pass you can't fish in the summer.

That I don't understand how they handle their own way. We have a KDWP fisheries biologist in our club and he says you don't have to have a permit to have a small tournament. I inquired about it at Glen Elder this year and they wanted to charge an arm and a leg for 4 boats to fish a small tournament. If their going to charge a fee it needs to be the same for every state park not what the feel like.
won't be having one
