What comes on a Mercury 250XS Reman Power Head ??
You're not likely going to find a "reman" powerhead for the 250XS....

A new one comes with cyl. block, crankshaft, bearings, pistons, rings, cyl. heads, and powerhead mounting gasket (and is PAINTED BLACK).

Don, why did Merc start painting them black?? Some old racers used to paint the engine blocks black cause if it isn't in direct sun it is supposed to dissipate heat quicker
I'm sure there were several reasons for the "black painted XS powerheads".
The most obvious ones are:
1. Since the ProXS and XS (250) use the same powerhead, painting all powerheads allows for a common component in both engines (streamlined production and production cost savings).
2. Better corrosion protection.

Don--Several people have Mercury Reman powerheads. I was wondering how they came in. I assume like a short block in a automobile. Guess the best thing to do is ask !!!
Well, I stand corrected.
Just got in the 2009 Mercury Remanufacturing book- and sure enough, there IS a reman powerhead available for 2003-2009 250XS, or 2006-2009 250 ProXS engines.
Part# 61-841017R51 (currently readily available as of today). Complete block, crank, pistons, heads, thermostats/covers, and necessary "normal installation" gaskets.
There you go...
