    2002 250 XB Alarm???

A loose cap on the inboard oil tank allowed the tank under the cowling to drop low enough to trigger an alarm...but the alarm never sounded? There is voltage to the sensor in the tank so I replaced the sensor. To test the new sensor I drained the oil low enough to trigger an alarm no luck... What should I try next?

    Thanks...justin

Test the alarm under the dash. It may be defective.... in which case, you won't hear it.

Yes. With the key in the "on" position, unhook the "blue" wire from the sensor on the oil tank. Jumper the blue wire (engine harness side) to "good engine ground" momentarily. You should receive a warning buzzer promptly.

If you do- the sensor is not sending the appropriate signal, and should be replaced.

If you do not, let me know... you'll need further testing.

Just to confirm here... key was on, unhooked blue sensor wire, then jumpered the ENGINE HARNESS SIDE (not the sensor itself) of the blue wire to ground- and received no horn?

If this is the case, you will need to check the warning module itself. I would highly recommend that you have an OEM Mercury Manual on hand for this testing....

Performed exactly as you instructed...Should I just take it to a dealer?

That would be your "safest" bet... unless you have an OEM manual, test meter, and are prepared to go through the appropriate testing.

Keep in mind- this is the warning system that let's you know "you need to stop, something's wrong... bad wrong" (I'm sure you know this, just restating it for other's that might read later). This system is something that you need to be able to depend on!
