need lower unit help

Ok... I pretty much grenaded reverse gear in an attempt to save my trolling motor from certain death. Saved the minn kota though. Left my boat in hayward wisconsin (bout 300 miles), and tryin to figure out which lower unit I need to replace it. I got a 175 xri 20" with stock lower unit. Can anyone tell me which stock L.U. I need (casting #s or what have you) I'm drivin back up to fix it... hopefully, and would like to have the right lower unit with me. I was told that the 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 L.U.s are all the same (minus shaft length) is this be true? Been in a boat for 30 years and this is the 1st lower unit I messed up so I apologize for the somewhat sophmoric question. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

I can tell you this; I have a 1995 2.5 200 h.p and it has 2:1 gear ratio. Your 175 should be 1:87 gear ratio.

What year motor do you have. Ihave a 1990 2.5 200 that came with a 1.87.1
Also my Operation and Maintenance Manual has the Model V 175 with a 1.87.1 also .and the v150 thru v135 has the 2.1 gear ratio
If you could get some one to send your serial number to you . You could post it over on the Mercury board and Don will tell you what came with it from the factory ?
