How to get out Recirculate Valves?

1995 Evinrude 200, I have been doing some much needed maintance and wanted to clean and check the recirc valves. I got it torn all the way down to the valves. I tried to use a piece of wire to push them out from the back side with no luck. I thought maybe the nipple check valve might need to come out for it to release but that didnt help either. Tried a small pick to catch the edge to pull it out failed there also. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? The manual says to use the wire, but that didn't work for me. All 6 are stuck in there. Any help would be great.

The recirc valves are screwed into the side of the crankcase. They are a one way valve and can't be repaired only replaced. The Check valves that are pressed into the front side of the crankcase can be popped out by using a taper pin that has been fabricated to fit inside the re-circ valve opening.

Yea the check valves are whats causing me troubles. The manual shows a small wire being inserted into the back side of the valve and using it to push out the valve. I took a a cotter pin and straightened it out a little and tried to push them out like the manual shows but no deal. I even used needle nose pliers to pull on the pin but it wouldnt budge. any clues?

Yes I see in the manual that they do, but for what ever reason they will not. I will try a pick on them.

Pick wouldnt get it with out tearing up the surface. Tried a stronger tie wire also but still no luck. Any other ideas?
Thinking about drilling these out from the front and replacing them all. Anything wrong with that other than it's 150 down the drain.

Other than I've rarely seen one bad I'd just clean the screen. The recircs are the ones that go bad more often than not.

OK, Are you trying to pull it out from the front side as depicted in your picture? If so access the back side of the valve where the recirc screws into then it will pop out.

I used tie wire to push on the valve from the back side. I went through the hole directly behind the valve in the inside of the crankcase. I even used a pair of needle nose pliers to get more force on the wire, but it just bends.
