    Close Call

Yesterday we had a close call on N. Barkley that was as close as you can get to a bad accident without actually ending up dead or badly injured.

A couple of guys in a maroon Triton came up from behind me on my right side and made a 90 degree left turn across the bow of my boat. We only passed within inches of one another....got a boat full of the spray off his engine. It was the same time that the FOM guys were all running from takeoff so I suspect it was one of their teams but no way to be sure and I did not get the boat number...too busy taking evasive action and cleaning out my drawers afterwards.

Be careful out there folks...the crazies are loose and have in their hands a lot of horsepower and no common sense and even less experience.

Not likely this could happen but just in case the team that almost hit me does read this: Do yourself and all of us a favor, sell your boat and take up golf. Just be happy that you are still in one piece today...accident or not, if I had been able to recover in time and not had a boat full of clients you would not have made it back to the ramp yesterday without calling an ambulance or more likely and air evac.

I am not bashing tournament anglers but for some reason adrenalin takes over an common sense goes away when your on the clock

Glad you and your clients escaped that one. I agree with JR19, if I had been with you...we would have gone after those a** clowns.!!!!! I've chased guys like that down before. I usually have some commentary to make to them about their ancestory.

I will tell you what I am seeing more and more of...folks running wot with their eyes glued to an lcr screen following their gps tracks....reminds me of the folks that I see drifting across centerlines on the roads with a cell phone stuck in their ear......

Honestly, since Swindle's little escapade in the Classic, I have seen a lot more people taking chances in high-speed boats... Not blaming him, but I think ESPN did all of us an injustice by showing it over and over again - kinda de-sensitized everyone to it, and made a lot of the wannabes think "I'm good enough to control my boat too!"

I have seen this alot also dave..especially on the twins..but these guys need to quit depending totally on their electronics...you and I both know the gps is a great tool..but running 70 mph..10 ft of error on that chart could be lights out on barkley right now..aside from the other boats coming at you doing 70 while watching a screen
