    Champ/Seahorse

    1992 javelin 389T with a 1991 intruder 150 spitfire series, E150GLEIS unmolested motor, 335195 heads on it....

I had posted about a month ago with fuel problems. You guys I'm sure dont remember it but I had fuel pouring out of the top carb. I was going to just rebuild that carb but ya'll suggested taking it all the way down to the reed valves while paying close attention to the old seals.

So I actually took yall's advice. The old black style seals for the reeds was swelled/warped and obviously was sucking a little air. The big spaghetti style intake seals wasn't much better, they were sucking a little air at the very top, actually had a layer of grime where the seal should have been tight. The top carb that was pouring fuel, the screw that holds the float pin had backed out just enough that the float had dropped way down and couldn't close the needle. I went ahead and bought six carb bowls and rebuild kits too so I wouldn't wonder what if.

Maiden voyage tonite and wow! In the summer heat before I was running a 23p trophy at 54-55 mph, 5200. Tonite I was turning that trophy 5500 at 58 loaded heavy and 2 -220 lb men, still had trim left and a small amount of hot foot left, it was 88 degrees and 175000% humidity too! Now I dont have enough prop!! No telling how she will run this fall when it cools back down as that prop used to turn 5400-5500 in the fall. Unreal at how strong the power comes on and it just keeps pulling.

Thanks so much for ya'lls undeserved help on here. I would have the sorriest piece of a cobbed up excuse for motor without the input from the experts on here. My wife thinks I am some kind of mechanic genius now and I aint telling her no different.

I have 3 23p mercury props to trade off now, I may wind up all the way at a 25p before its over, was scared to turn the old 91 intruder over 5500 rpms...!!

Again, yall are the best. And seahorse I actually grew up in Alabaster Alabama if you know where that small town is. I really miss fishing on Lay and Mitchell lake, havent found anything as good here yet. If can ever pay it back to you 2 guys somehow--I will do it gladly.

Let me know how your Intruder does once the weather cools off some. I have the same year Intruder as you do. Since adding a jackplate and raising the motor up over the winter, I'm now searching for a prop. The 22 Raker is way to small. Looking for a 23P or possibly 24P Tempest. Hoping to hit 62-63 MPH with the right prop. Wish my pockets were deeper; I would just buy a bunch and try them all. I simply love my ole Intruder. It's one hell of a 150HP and starts right up at the ramp and runs all day long !
