97 Evinrude 200 Vindicator

Model : E200STLEUB Last wed. boat ran great, no issues. Last saturday went fishing and at launch i didn't let motor idle down from fast idle,immediately after shifting the motor would only turn 600 rpms in gear. It would rev fine in neutral. If it was almost in neutral it would take off.
I started focusing on shift interruptor switch and operated it manually and it kicks up all 6 cylinders.
I completely unhooked shift interruptor and it runs fine, hooked up it runs like crap.

Boat will not take off with a load in it and engine over revs. Is this a power pack issue?

I did install a new torque tab before the spinout issue,though. Thanks for any assistance

Well, if i reade your post right, you said it ran fine with interupt switch disconected. So bad shift interupt switch>??????

Will it hurt to run it with that switch disconnected?

You won't be able to get it back in Neutral. The point of that switch is to kill 3 cylinders to make it so you can get it in neutral.

I can shift with it disconnected, i took it out last night and ran it.

It doesn't idle as well but seems to do alright otherwise. When the switch is manually depressed it will fire up the other 3 cylinders.

Actually the purpose of the switch is to kill the 3 cylinders so you save the clutch dog when you shift from neutral to forward or reverse. Unhook it at the pack if it runs fine otherwise you have a bad switch if not bad pack.

Checked spark today. Excellent on all plugs except port top and bottom. Plugged in shift switch and nothing on all three port cylinders.
After i unplugged switch all three port cylinders were pretty hot.
Bad switch or power pack?
