    Lights driving me crazy!

Lights on the trailer are on but very dim and reverse lights are on. Back-up lights on truck are on but very dim but truck is not in reverse. Any ideas? I have replaced the trailer conector and run a new ground to the tounge. Could it be the ground at the trailer lights? HELP!

UPDATE....Brother wiggled Blue wire on trailer and lights work

Sounds like you have a truck light problem and not a trailer light problem. Unless you have some wires crossed. Ground wire will usually fix your problem, but the reverse light being on, on the truck sounds funny. Is your reverse lights on the truck once you disconnect from the trailer?

Do you have a 4 way or 5 way plug? Can you try it hooked to another truck to see if the same thing happens? What happans to the lights if you put the truck in reverse? It's sounds like a bad ground or crossed wires somewhere to me too.

I'd be looking at your ground and fuses. Your trailer is drawing current through your reverse solenoid.

Ground is good. A blown fuse would not allow any power to trailer lights..correct?
I'm starting to think the blue wire to the solinoid is pinched or something?

Bulbs and solenoids are both low resistance devices and can allow enough current to pass to light a bulb when a ground is inadequate or a fuse is blown.

There is a path from the point where the solenoid is grounded on the trailer, through the blue wire into the backup lights on the vehicle, through the backup light filaments to the vehicle ground. When the trailer is not connected adequately to the vehicle ground, current may flow through this path when a trailer light is activated, causing the vehicle backup lights to glow dimly.

The easiest check for good ground is to crawl under the truck and find a clean frame bolt. Hook one end of a jumper cable to that bolt. Connect the other end to the trailer grounding bolt on the tongue. If the problem goes away, you don't have a good path from vehicle ground to frame.

If the back up solenoid is grounding out on the trailer, could I just unhook the blue wire and the lights should work?

One end of the solenoid is supposed to be grounded. If there was another part of it grounded, you'd be blowing fuses on your truck.
