Rotten bunk boards on a Skeeter trailer

How long have your bunk boards lasted? I have had a couple boats that lasted 8 to 10 years, but on my Skeeter they are completely rotten in only 5 years. The boat is garage kept so it only gets wet when it is time to fish. I could not find anyone that sells the 9' lenths I needed so I built them myself and it was not too hard. I just could not believe the wood was rotten enough to break in half by hand in just five years. Would pressure trated wood rot that quick, or could they have been using regular wood to save themselfs a little money? The wood was so bad I could not tell but I doubt that pressure treated would have rotted away that fast. Honestly, the carpet was the only thing holding them together. Just courious what you guys have seen.

I have a 2007 20i and I have had to replace mine already. Same description, carpet only thing holding them together. I replaced mine with treated wood, hoping they will last longer this time.

I have a 07 Skeeter and on Saturday I noticed one of the bunks broken in half and after looking at it you can tell the wood was rotten so now I have to get another one. I was considering making it myself. Is there a special carpet that is used for trailer bunks?

sounds like whoever is providing the trailers for skeeters is using cheap materials. No reason for a bunk board to only last a couple of years.

My 1992 Skeeter has original bunks and carpet - will replace this fall but not rotted from what I see. Lets face it now a days they dont make much like they used to.

Being that my boat was a 07 I was shocked mine rotted out so fast. What I ended up doing is going to Home Depot and purchasing treated lumber, outdoor carpet, galvanized bolts, and adhesive and made my own. I think I paid $60 total.

Re: Rotten bunk boards on a Skeeter trailer (spiroh)

I have a 2001 Skeeter and have not noticed any issues with my boards wood. However it seems the posts about wood problems are for the mid 2000's models. Is not about the time the Government took CCA off the market and changed the formula for pressure treating wood? I bet that has something to do with it (just speculation however).
