water pressure gauge question

Hey guys i got a question.

I just ordered a manual 5 ½ jackplate and i want to monitor the water pressure. The problem is i don't want to buy a gauge yet since i will be replacing all the gauges in the boat and i don't have a style picked out yet. Can i just go down to my auto parts store and by a water pressure guage and run the line back to the motor ( 1990 mariner 115 ) and tee it in to the tell tale line up near the cylinder head. I would be into this for 20 bucks for now. Then later mount in the proper gauge.

And i bought a proper water pressure gauge.
