No, not at all....you can run down to the dock everyday and see what is at the end of the ropes.....![]()

All kidding aside, an automatic bilge pump is a lot like a sump pump in your basement. It has a float attached to the housing and when the water comes up the switch rises and turns the pump on. When the water gos down the switch drops and the pump turns off...unless there is a build-up of say fiberglass shavings or small chunks of carpet that were left in the hull during construction that jams the switch. If this happens then the pump will continue to run which drains the battery and /or burns up the pump motor.![]()

If you moor you boat, will need one! and don't cheap out buy a good one that will move some water.
I have known people with larger boats that sit a sump pump in the bilge area which is run on 110V...just in case......
is it easy to add an aftermarket auto blige pump?
I don't know where yours is located but it shouldn't be any problem. Some boats run a manual and an automatic....
If your gonna ad an automatic pump "DON'T GET THE ONES THAT HAVE A FLOAT".
More times than not those things fail because trash get hung up in the float or the float cracks and fills with water so it won't rise to start the pump etc.. Get one that has an enclosed sonic sensor, it will read through oil, trash etc. and it's totally automatic. I bought a 1000 GPH Automatic Mayfair Pump, money well spent !!!!

I upgraded to a Auto-Pump since new knowing that my boat will be at the boat slip from opening till Closing. Been through many Storm/rain and the pump have not been use before because of the CustomMade Cover. However, its nice to know that you have a Pump when you are 100km away from the Marine and still able to sleep through the Storm![]()
ok now that you got that computer controled pump...keep this in mind..when it clicks on ever few minutes it is sencing a load and will stay on if there is water..but if your discarge hose has a long reach up and out the might be a chance of the pump going on and off alot more often..and when boat is out of water...make shure you have a easy way of disconecting it..i work on my share of 30-60 foot boats and majority of them have it ..and my self have one in my ranger ..p/s a 3600 gph was a over kill in a 17 foot ranger..but you havent been on the waters of green bay with me either![]()

I know what exactly you are talking about. Thats why, I clean {Bone-Dry} my bilge area everytime before I cover up and check if there is any water the next time before I use the boat. This way I know if water is coming in even with sitting there not moving. My in-law have Burned his AutoPump with not enough water in it![]()
