Could this be timming issue w/ Ficht?

    Hey Guys! 97 Ficht 150 (E150ILEUC/G04283431)-
Recently did a compression check and all cyl #s were fine. Since then when I try to get on plane w/ WOT it gets to about 3000 RPMs and then sounds like its cutting out and drops to 2000 rpms instantly then revs back up, did not stall but motor shakes and jerks. Freaked me out so I pulled back and shut it down. I did get the check engine lt and alarm. It starts up fine, idles and cruises at slow speed fine. Pulled the plugs and had 2 fouled. Never had this problem before. I am wondering if it is something w/ the crank sensor or timing? I disconnected the sensor wires prior to test and noticed that the top of the crank sesor bracked was cracked. I unscrewed it and fixed it w/ epoxy. Could I have done something then to cause this? Don't have software so gonna run it by the shop to pull the error code this weekend. Just wondering if there is something I can look into prior. Any help is appreciated. Thanks- Steve.

The crank sensor has to be very close to the flywheel - 1-2 mm on my 04 engine - did you get it back close? An improperly positioned cps could certainly cause erratic operation. Do you have the System Check gauge - what kind of alarm did you get?

The check engine light means you are going into SLOW mode which means one bank of cylinders are being turned off. You are going to have to recover the code to know where to start.

Get a .025" feeler gauge and insert in between the flywheel and the CPS. Turn the CPS until it touches the feeler gauge, then lock it down. The factory specs call for a wider gap, but the '97 needs all the help it can get.

I've had good luck using the QC12PEP plugs in the '97's, gapped to 0.028", instead of the short lived 7712 plugs. Be sure to index them per the info on the main page ONE STOP SHOPPING section

Thanks for the help guys. I will use a feeler gauge and reset the CPS. Yep I've been using the QC12PEP plugs index per instructions. Never had any issue with fouling until now. As far a retrieving the error code(s), I assume it needs to be done hooking it up to a computer & software which I don't have. I'll try to get it into a shop soon to have them pull that. Thanks again for all your help.
