    ETEC 60hp

Hey guys, I have a few questions:
    1. Can the engine history be downloaded from the motor if the EMM is replaced, or is it cleared out?
    2. Is there a way to get a service history on all warranty work performed? Can this be obtained through Evinrude, or would I get it from the dealer?
    3. What is the general consensus on this motor? I've found where several people have had major ongoing issues with them out here on the www. (can probably be found with any motor)

Here's the situation. I'm looking to buy my first boat. I took a slightly used one for a lake test the other day and the motor kept alarming. After taking it back to the dealership, they said it needs a new EMM, and they were going to push for a new fuel pump as well. This is an '07 ETEC 60, sold new in '08, with 70 hours use, and they say it's under warranty until January of 2012.

If I could get some answers to these questions, and any other thoughts you have, I'd sure appreciate it.

You should have a tach or a gauge with 4 red warning lights on it. Which one(s) came on when the alarm sounded?

Call Evinrude customer service at 847-689-7090 for the warranty history or have your dealer get it for you online.

My understanding is it was the check engine light. The dealer rep was behind the wheel and it would alarm after just a minute or two of idleing. We never made it out of the no wake zone due the the alarm. He would shut it off and turn it back on but it kept coming back after a short time, so we loaded up and back to the dealer shop. They said it needed a new EMM and they were going to push for a new fuel pump as well. The motor was stumbling a little and also had a mouse squeek every few seconds. I was planning to buy the boat and of course they want me to give it a second chance, but now I'm not sure if I want to risk it. That's why I'm wondering how to get that information. I'm new to all this. Thanks

Before you call Evinrude have the model # and serial # ready. They can give you any warranty work that has been performed. The engine history report can be pulled from the EMM as long as it is still functional. The check codes can tell the error. It could be something as simple as water in the gas. Is the selling dealer BRP E-tec certified?

They show up on the Evinrude website, under the service dealers. But they don't show the BRP Certified Technician logo beside their name.

    Re: ETEC 60hp (ChampioNman)

Will Evinrude have a problem giving me the history report, even though I don't own the boat?

    Thanks for all the help.

They shouldn't tell them you are thinking of buying the boat and motor and would like to know the warranty history. They cannot provide you with an engine report though that has to come from the dealer. Evinrude can only give you the warranty claims.

ChampioNman, I called Evinrude with the Serial# information and all they would do is confirm the Warranty end date. They wouldn't give me anything else. Any other suggestions?

Go to http://www.etecownersgroup.com and post the serial number. Maybe one of the dealers there will get a report for you.
