    Cleaning your Rig (Jackplate Especially)

I am an ongoing fanatic on cleaning my boat to assure that I can keep as much dirt and grime off of it as possible. In battling the constant fight with the elements and lake debris the one area that I have never been able to really make shine is my aluminum jackplate... until now.

I tried a product that I picked up at the local auto parts store made by Blue Magic called Metal Polish Cream. This product worked wonders. It took years of oxigiation off of my jackplate and left it with a mirror finish. I can actually see myself in the plate!

If anyone is interested in a little labor in a tight area, this is the product for you. Nearly effortless work with fantastic results.

I just found a similar product at Wal-Mart called 'Never Dull'. It is a compound that comes premixed on a type of wool applicator and did wonders on my jackplate as well. When I run out of this stuff, I may try your suggestion to compare. Happy Shining!!!

I may be mistaken, but I believe one gentleman on here buffed his jackplate to a mirror finish, and then posted a warning not to do this because of the material on the jackplate that protected the metal. Again, I'm not positive, but just thought I may give a heads up.

I've heard the same. once you buff off the protectant you will be left w/ a dull metal look after just a few outings and will have to do this constantly once you buff that stuff off.

I used never dull, 3m alum. polish. Cant get it mirror clean. My jackplate was originally painted black, paint started flaking off looking nasty so I stripped all the paint off and polished it. I had about 6 hours into the job this winter, but no mirror finish. Maybe since mine was originally painted, the manufacturer didn't put some kind of finish on the aluminum to keep it shiny? Seems pitted in some spots. Though it was water stains, polished my butt off-it does look better than it did, but not like the pics posted here.
