Removing gas/oil grime, what cleaning agent?

Gentlemen,
I really want to clean out my transom area and clean my fuel tanks up nice before putting them back in. Does anyone have experience with a good cleaning agent to remove years of gas/oil grime??? Thanks for the input.

Simple green

Dawn dish liquid and a scrub brush or Purple Power.
