    Glue removal?

Hey guys. I'm in the process of recarpeting my 99 ProCraft 180 and when I pulled the old out, there was a pretty thick layer of old glue. Can anyone tell me if there is a cleaner or some type of product that can be used to assist in the removal of this. Thanks!

Haven't tried it yet but have always been told Acetone. Im gonna be doing some recarpeting soon and that is what the mfg of my boat told me to use. Im sure someone with more knowledge will come along with some better tips.

I used MEK, it doesn't evaporate as quickly as acetone and I believe that allows it to work longer. I brushed it on with a chip brush and let it dry. Then hit it with a 4" grinder and a cup brush and it comes right off. Before you apply glue wipe over it with the MEk one last time.

I'm in the process of re-doing my carpet right now, almost finished. I found a 4" angle grinder with a coarse wire cup brush worked very quickly, it does make a mess though.

Someone on here suggested Xylol. I have tried it and it works great. I sprayed it on with a cheap plastic bottle sprayer. Does not evaporat as fast as Acetone and turns the outdoor glue to jelly instantly. Just clean up with a scraper. No dust!

The Orange Citrus Gel Paint Stripper sold at Walmart and Lowes works great. I painted it on with a paint brush and let it sit for 20-30 min and then the old glue scrapped right off with a putty knife with little to no effort. Doesnt damage the gel coat.

I used acetone and GoofOff with a wire brush and scraper. By far the acetone was better but lots of fumes.

I like acetone. Goof off will take that glue right off but I got some on a painted surface and it took the paint right off. Safer to go acetone,

I am telling you guys.........the Orange Citrus gel paint stripper is the bomb, smells great, very cheap (especially compared to Goof-Off) and it basically just wipes off with a putty knife after it sits on the old glue for 20-30 mins. No need to use a wire brush or abrasion of any type.

    Re: (rwainwright)

I might have to give that orange stuff a try for the remaining glue.

Juts like he says, paint it on, let it sit, and the glue just scrapes right off with now effort at all. The best part is no fumes. Seeing this has shown me that I can do my own carpet job, since stripping was my biggest fear. Not any more.
