I read about how to fix small gelcoat crack, nicks or chips but this is a large area about 1Wx3L ft. These cracks are very small (thinner then hair) better description would be a stress or spider cracks. Its a white gelcoat, no metal flake. Can this be fixed without spraying the gelcoat or should I have it sprayed.

White is the easiest and cheapest to work with.
As far as how, that depends on where the repair is and how cosmetically a match it needs to be. If on the above the water hull line you might want it sprayed on to try to get an as perfect a match as you can.
With that large an area you can still hand lay the gelcoat but spraying will lay it on smoother and lessen the amount of sanding needed to bring it up to a factory type finish.
If they are not impact caused spider cracks there is a good chance they will return though.
