North River Geek Hydra-Sport Restore Progress Report

OK Guys and Gals its been a long time since Ive made any progress on this Project ..
But where near the finish Line now.

All those who started following my boat project from Sept thru Sometime in February when I last posted a real update .. over the last 2 weeks or so Ive made great progress... Im close to done maybe another 2 weeks Ill actually have it in the water

And For Those who never saw original thread from Last Fall ..
Here is the boat day one and a couple shots from along the way

Ive bought a new steering wheel
to go with the newly remade boat, and have new carpet

    Here is the pics

The Motor .. bought it for 400 maybe 350 cant remember .. I had been in salt the steering arm was shot rusted so thin was dangerous, I found a whole mid section for 100 bucks, found a tilt trim motor for 100 the old motor didnt have trim/tilt does now..
The old motor was turquoise blue sorta color yuck!! and peeling!

I swapped the motor and foot over to new mid section, and replaced the water pump while in the process, and sanded the whole motor, and primed part of it .. more work to be done on motor later..

I havent been able to touch the boat since about the 2nd week of March too busy fixing every one elses boat.. its been slow lately so I jumped back on mine..

I finished all the glass work ( cosmetic ) and filled pin holes etc .. then sanded and prepped to paint, this eve I primed it with epoxy, lil wet sand in the am , and I will spray the base and clear..
Pics to follow after paint done

    Till next time
    Later

Looking good. Did you strip the old gelcoat? What did you use for paint and what was the process?

No did not strip gel coat except the right side of the boat about half way down, had an old repair that had been previously done that was not done very well, I had to fix the issues from that....
The rest of the boat, was just sanded with 80 and 220 , then sprayed with Dupont Nason epoxy primer, then was block wet sanded to smooth out any low spots etc .. then sprayed again, and scuffed, then urethane base coat was sprayed, then the urethane clear coat ( 4 coats ) wet sanded again and then buffed now its smooth as glass .

There are still some flaws . but good enuff for me .. I could spend at least another week making the paint perfect .. but hell I just wana get done and go fishin
    Its not perfect .. there

Great job....I wish I had the know-how and energy to tackly a project like that. I can't imagine how rewarding it will be the first time you take it out.

Nice job on this boat! I am in the process of doing the same thing to my 85 VL-475. I would like to ask several questions. Please email me at b_bain@q.com
I am only doing the transom/stingers and I have never done this before!
    Thanks for your time.

Small update to the boat .. Here is the gauges and steering wheel installed, waiting on my seats to get recovered, I may just buy new ones if he dont hurry the heck up, and still waiting on the rear and rod locker lids to be finished.

Motor is painted will post pics of it when mounted to boat
