    Boat deck carpet question

I have all the lids on my 896 savage cleaned up waiting to carpet. Now I am down to cleaning off the boat deck. Does all the glue have to come off the deck or do I just have to get all the old carpet and fibers off. It seems like if i get all the old glue off I am down into taking the gell coat off of the fiberglass.

I took mine all off, scraped then laquer thinner in a well vented area,
Lowes sells a carpet and adheasive remover that works pretty well.
I would get it all off, dont want the new carpet comming up,
if you scratch the gel coat a bit, its coverd with carpet anyway,
be careful around the edges, heres a pic. This is the front deck with the new glue ready for carpet, you can see on the edges how clean it was, I used contact cement for the edges after the top carpet was on Good luck

Got more pics if you need em

Do you have any pics for how you cut the outside and inside corners for your top deck? And what did you use to hold that edge in place?

no pics of those cuts, sorry, Outside really not that hard, 90 degree plus on one side and 90 minus on the other, or just a straight down the middle, I did both, It seems to me the seam in the corner will have less chance of pulling off because the corners seem to not compress as much as the sides when opening and closing. Inside; straight cut, you will have to put a small triangle peace in the gap cut from a scrap but you cannot even see it.
I used weldwood contact gel, cheep throw away china brushes for the contact cement (7$ for a bag of 15 at Home Repo) brush it on both edge and carpet lip, let it get tackey and press it on, and its on there, your not movin it so be careful and start in the middle and work your way out. Also get some quick release painters tape and tape up edges where you dont want glue, brush the glue on pull the tape after the glue gets tackey but before you place the carpet
heres some pics of how I did my lids, they turned out great

I cut the carpet 1'' over size and applied roberts

flipped em and weighted them and let em dry at least a day

Trim and cut corners to dry fit

    contact glue edges

Got all the suare corners glued down. Now my big lid covering the gas tank has 2 edges that are rounded instead of square. Will the same cut used for square corners work on these rounded ones?

my rounded corners i just folded the carpet edges over and where it wanted to bunch i made a cut , then it would fold over and overlap itself, then i just trimmed the overlaps so they would meet flush, does that make any sense???
Heres a pots on my project in detail
