    Starting problem

I have a question about a 2001 Johnson 225ho. I was out the other day and the motor was running great, I fished about half a day and pulled over to talk to a friend, when I went to start up the motor just cranked and cranked but wouldnt fire. I looked and was real low on fuel so I went to the dock and got some gas, and still no luck. Finally I decided to push the hotfoot about half way down and it started up. So I shut it off and paid for the gas and when I went to start it, nothing. I could hear the solenoid click but no starter. I wiggled some wires and turned the starter bendix and then it cranked. Now every time I start the motor I have to give it half throttle to get it to fire and the it sounds weak while cranking. I have a new battery also. Any help is appreciated.

Check for a loose ground on the block and make sure you have swapped out the wing nuts for lock washers and nylon insert nuts. Check the throttle linkage also, and make sure the throttle plates are opening fully at WOT. CM

Lock washers ang nylon locking hex nuts need to be MANDATORY on everyone's rig. THe dang wingnuts are nothing but trouble waiting to happen.

I would also remove the air box and see if you have a carb flooding, prime the bulb until firm that should show you any problems with the carbs.

Holding the throttle half open sounds like the motor is flooding.
