    re gelcoating entire boat

I want to re gelcoat my entire boat. It is red/gray now and I want to change colors althogether. I want to make it white with a black and yellow stripe down the sides. The bottom of the hull is grey. There is no metal flake in this. It is a solid color. How much gelcoat do I have to remove before I can respray? Do I need to go back to bare fiberglass, or do I need to "rough" up the surface and clean?

Re: re gelcoating entire boat (parttime)

rough it up ,no need to sand it all off.....lucky you that it is all solid color will not have to mess with clear gelcoat

Thanks Chuck. You just saved me a bunch of time on the bottom half. Hope to work on it again this weekend. Should start with the new color soon. Sorry to take so long to get back.
