Hi guys i've been reading the forum for answer and even tho i feel more educated now i still could not find what i am looking for. my johnson 115 sat up for 4 months or so. When i took it out i noticed a tapping coming from the top end of the motor. It almost sounded like a wrist pin problem to me. Did a compression check and checked the plugs. 116-122psi on all 4 cylinders. Plugs looked great... little wear but color was perfect and no buildup on them. I did notice the plugs were gapped around .45 and not .30. Put plugs back in and started motor. Friend did the old screwdriver to the ear and said the cylinder sound fine and that it sounds like its coming from under the flywheel. At the same time i have been having a fuel issue. This came about last year. Sometimes when i would get on the plane the motor would start to starve out and i'd have to pump the ball to get it to stay running. Few pumps and she would run great. The problem was intermittent. i could run it for days and no trouble then sometimes it would do it 4 times in one trip. well fuel screen was cleaned, new fuel lines , water/seperator was changed, new clamps on all fuel lines, new ball and its STILL there..... well the motor sounded like it ran out of gas while we were listening to it. I wasen't fast enough to pump the ball and it died and wouldn't start back up. Now at this point there was no fire. it sat for 10 mins and fired up again. Question is do they have anything under the flywheel that would cause the tapping that is ignition related? like a magneto or something? also any other input on fuel problem would be appreciated. Let me know if you need model # of the motor also. Thanks
