    Advice on fixing these......

These are pics of about 6 deep scratches in the gel and clear. Not enitirely thru to the fiberglass. All are in solid black area. My first two thoughts of repair would be to fill the scratch with black marinetex then clearcoat then wet sand and buff. The other choice would be a black enamel paint in the scratch then clearcoat then wet sand and buff. Are either of these two methods ok? What do you guys think? Oh..and ofcourse new decals.

Kinda hard to tell in the pics, but if its a solid black(no metal flake) the good thing is black is about the easiest color to match....

Even the enamel solution would probably be fine. Id just try to fill it in with a model paint brush then clean it up. Worst that happens is it comes off and you do it again in a few years, but it should be an easy job.

Pick-up a gelcoat repair kit and follow the instructions. Most kits come with multiple colors, including black.

I like the air dry gel coats. You don't have to cover them up w/ anything to cure. I've had trouble w/ the gel coats that aren't air dry.

Do you mean an air dry gel coat repair kit. Or are you talking about actual gel like the original gel from the factory. I mean is this something that has to be sprayed?

    This might help.

I usually cover small repairs with a piece a waxed freezer paper. wax side over the gel will allow it to cure properly.

If this was in the flake?, what type of spray gun would you use to spray the flake finish?
i have a good sized crack I'm about to repair, and need to use flake in the finish.

    thank you.
