How many hours is a lot on a motor?

I have a chance to buy a 2004 Evinrude 175 DI. Dealer said it has 400+ hours on it. Is this a lot for a motor of that year. They have completely gone through and serviced the motor so that makes me feel good. I have never really given it much thought on what a lot of hours would be so I have no clue. thanks.

100 hours a year is considered used a lot. My 03 DI only has 200+ hours, but I don't get out much in the winter and generally only fish once a week. Hope that gives you some idea. These engines have been known to go for well over a thousand hours, with proper care.

with proper care and good oil, you will probably never wear out an engine, something else will kill it first, like a dud water pump, or rust/corrosion, but it will certainly almost never wear out, my poor old 115 Fichts have over 2,300 hours on them now and they are still fine.
