Hi there, I just recently bought a boat with the same motor, the previous owner had taken it to Evolution Marine back in the days when they were performing Johnson modifications. He chose to go with new heads and reeds, other than that he had a different lower unit put on and a re worked prop. I suspect this was the best bang for the buck without spending tons of money.
Just throwing that out there, these are pretty powerfull engines as they are. I have read that the 225 ho is around 247 hp 10% for the ho factor. With new heads and reeds maybe there is a 10 -15 hp gain ... not sure.
