How to adjust the throttle cable

I have a Johnson 120 (J120TLASB) that I could not get to rev up past 3000 rpm. I removed the intake cover and moved the controls to wot and the throttle plates were only about a quarter of the way open. I am wanting to find out if I just have to adjust the throttle cable and how to do it. I am not sure what controls I have. I could not find a number on them. Thanks.

I would disconnect the cable at the motor and move the linkage to see if the plates were opening fully. You throttle roller on the cam follower may have come out of adjustment or your clear roller may be missing that covers the hard black plastic roller.

If the black roller isn't touching the cam follower then pretty important. You can always go to a hardware store and get a piece of 1/8" ID clear tubing and slip it over the roller.

The clear plastic roller was gone, I replaced it. Now the plates are open when at wot. Do I have to do a sync and link now? I don't have a service manual yet and was hoping to go out on the lake this weekend? Thanks.

    You should be fine.

The clear roller keeps the black roller from breaking. Ante up the $.50 for a piece of tubing.
