    Chippewa Bay, 1000 Islands???? Cottages?

    Hey all,

My family and I are looking at fishing the 1000 islands area next summer. We just made our usual trip to White Lake Ontario and had a good time but 20 years to the same place it's time for a change.

I've came across a place called Riverbay Adventure Inn in Chippewa Bay. It's looks to be a decent place and it has a cottage that can handle the 9 of us. We are all alittle nervous about trying a new place without someone vouching for a place. We are very familiar with Alex Bay area, we've used that border crossing for 20 years. The 1000 islands bait store is a yearly stop.

If someone can give me some info on the Riverbay Adventure Inn and the bass and pike fishing in the Chippewa Bay are that would be great. Or maybe a recommendation on another affordable place (600-900) a week to stay. Lokking at June 25th - July 2 2011.

    Thanks all
    Matt

I've never heard of any places around chippewa bay. been looking for awhile now. sounds like a good deal chip bay is the best fishing but a prop eating nightmare. be careful. also chip bay is a ways away from anything... grocery's rest, etc. stock up before your get there...
Clayton NY has tons of places... look them up on the web. we always stay at lanz's...

Chippewa Bay is a nice spot, however I do not have any 1st hand knowledge of Riverbay Adventure Inn. I have a camp just outside town in A-bay where I stay. Did you check the internet and Chamber Of Commerce? Good luck.

My family has had a place on Chippewa Bay for the last 22 years and we rented for the 6 years prior to that. Since I'm only 31, it's legit to say I grew up in that area! It's my home away from home.

I have never heard of the place you mentioned. I can look into it if you want...I'll be going there this weekend (and next).

We used to rent at Schermerhorn Landing (Now Schermerhorn Harbor). We still park there and rent a boathouse slip (our place is on Mink Island directly across from the marina). The place was great anyway, but new owners just bought it about 5 years ago and have made some SIGNIFICANT improvements. All the cottages have been replaced (not remodelled) within the last 12 years or so...all with air conditioning. They have a convenience store and parts stores, plus as a service department. The link is below.

I could probably help you out with some fishing spots in the area too. I have both Largemouth and Smallie spots. I also have Pike spots if you're interested.

I'll check into The other place for you this weekend.

BAH! The ISLANDS is a prop eating nightmare...you just need to know where you're going. Study the charts and follow your GPS (Mine has been dead-on so far). I've never hit

It's only 8 miles from Alex Bay...not too far at all from "everything". If you're up there for fishing, you don't want to be close. Things near Alex Bay can be noisy and busy. It's nice to be up there where it's relatively quiet. Clayton is a nice area, but I think the weather can affect you more. There isn't much protection if you get a windy day. The river can get rocking and rolling around there. Up in Chippewa you can get out, even on a real windy day, and still get on some good fish. JMHO

One option is to check out rental properties on 'www.vrbo.com'. Just follow the links, I have rented places from the 1000 Islands, Santa Fe and on Hawaii from this website.

Thanks for the replies, we are going to try out Oneida Lake. Found a place to rent on vacation rental site. Spoke with the owner and got everything in line. Gonna take a day trip to 1000 islands and look around for the following year.

Thanks again, anyone has any tips on Oneida I'm all ears. Looking forward to fishing a little Thursday night tourney on a lake that actually has some fish. LOL

I have been at 1000 Islands all week and I wish I was at Oneida. I am finding this to be a tough area to pattern for a first timer. Check out nybass.com for some tips on Oneida. As long as the wind doesn't blow you will find fish.

    1000 Islands

LMB- grass edges near any little bays, if not on the edges probe the thick weeds with heavy jig or t-rig plastics.
Lake of the Isles is a sure bet for LMB.

SMB- drop shot main river channels and points. 20-50 feet of water.
Robo worms, Gulp leeches and minnows.
