    1994 Evinrude 150 Tilt/Trim problem (Smoking ground)

    1994 E150 GLERA
    1994 Stratos 284 DC

    So i took the boat out sunday for the first time this year... Tilt/Trim worked fine for the first couple runs of the boat. Started it up to move an noticed on my voltage gauge that when i hit the trim up or down that my voltage went from 13.1 to 9.6. Like there was a serious power draw...

    My buddy went back an looked when i hit the trim an notice the ground on the side of the mid section was smoking... The motor moves up an down but slow an sounds like the pump is working real hard...

    So when I got home, I lowered the motor and turned the manual release valve to manually raise the motor an check for binding in the midsection bushing. I could barly move the motor up at all.

    So than i raised the motor, blocked it and removed the pin on the tilt ram... i can move the motor up and down with ease. I than hit the down trim to see if the ground still gets hot without the motor weight on it. An it does.. Im thinking there may be something inside thats failed.

    Any ideas???

    The little ground cable is not unhooked or have a dirty ground bolt,the motor may be going out..

    I just took off every ground on the whole motor and my starting battery and cleaned them all... ground still smokes..... i just noticed that with the key removed from the boat when i hit the trim my fuel gauge rises??? im working on checking the amp draw of the motor...

    Does this sound like a trim motor problem to everyone... or do u think i have a wiring issue in my boat thats some how back feeding

    Apply 12 V directly to the motor with an inline 20 amp fuse inplace if the fuse pops or the wires get hot you have a bad motor. You can have it rebuilt at an alternator shop or get an after market motor.

    One last question....

    Will the fuse test work with the motor removed from the tilt/trim???

    Or does it have to be mounted with a load on it???

    So i hooked up a 20 amp fuse in inline an but some fluild in my unit. ( I have my tilt/trim on the work bench )

    An she blew the fuse.... So that means the motor sucks... I just ordered a new motor an the seal rebuild kit. I'm going to rebuild the whole thing since its out, but the new motor on.. An see what happens!!!
