When I take it out it starts right up and usually stays idling fine. I
back it away from the dock and idle 600 to 800 feet to the lake.
Then when I open the throttle it will bog immediatly and stall. I will
start it again, put it in neutral and just rev it up and it will burp and fart
a little but will pick up rpms.. when I shift into gear it will try to get on
plane but usually doesn't make it. Sometimes I have pumped the
throttle rapidly and it has at times gotten by the bog on the 6 or 7th
pump and get up on plane.
Once it takes off it is fine the rest of the day. If it sets a few hours while
we are fishing it may hesitate at first but will then get up and go. The next day it will repeat all over again.
Last year i drained all the carbs to see if water was in the bowls, there was not, and it still ran the same. Full open throttle it runs fine, no misses 68 mph by the speedo. This started last year in the spring.. I haven't had it out this year yet but will next week.
Plugs look good, pulled the thermostats to see if one was stuck open,
they look ok so i put them in a pot on the stove, both opened around
140 at the same time and closed at the same time. I just replaced the
fuel filter even thought it was clean and not restricted. Tomorrow I will
get a new pump ball for the gas line and replace that as well. All the carbs open at the same time and reach wide open at the same time.
It is a 2000 Ranger with a 2000 Johnson carbed motor. I have had it
since 2006 and there have been no problems till last year.
