    system check gauge install on 96 fast strike????

    hi guys,

    i have a question about my 96 150 fast strike. my boat is a 1991 ranger, and the previous owner purchased the motor new in 96 to replace a 150 johnson gt. My question is i am wondering if i already have the system check wiring in place and all i need is the gauge? the reason i ask is because i once got the motor hot and it threw a horn for about 10 seconds or so and then it limited my rpms to around 1000 until it got cool? If you think i do have this system already, where would i begin to look for it? thanks and great site.

    A model number would verify your model year. If you do indeed have the Deustch connectors then all you would need to do is purchase a gauge and hook up the connector to it. It should be tucked under the gunwale need the control box. Look for an 8 pin connector. Welcome to the BBC.

    i will try to get a model number up, but i am sure that it is a 96 fast strike. i will look for a connector and see what i come up with, butr i am thinking i have it somewhere since i know i have a alarm. thanks for the reply

    A quick way also would be to remove the motor cover and look at the wiring harness on the port side if there is a big red plug it is a pre-system check motor if there are a bunch of square connectors you are good to go.

    so i did some checking and my model number is J150GLEUC. which means i have a 1997 motor not a 1996 like i thought and the previous owner thought. I also looked around under my dash and could not find the rectangular plug everyone is talking about. So i am thinking that my motor must not have this feature, because i am guessing when the previous owner purchased this motor and replaced the gt 150 he did not replace the wiring harness. is it possible that he used the old wirning harness from the gt 150? Also, how could i not have the system check when i do get overheat alarms and i do get a horn on start up? is there a system on these motors that limits your rpm when a problem arises? the one time i did overheat i believe it limited me to 1000 rpms or so until alarm was gone.

    More than likely he purchased an adapter harness that converted the old harness to the new style connections. Yes you still have warning horns for Low Oil, no oil, fuel restriction and overtemp. Yes the motor has S.L.O.W., that reduces your RPM should an overtemp issue arise. You can purchase a new wiring harness that has the proper connectors from your local dealer or from http://www.shop.evinrude.com it will be in the accessories section of the online catalog.
