How has the river been doing? Better in the upper end or lower end. Any info that would help me for a tournament this weekend? Please help!

I fished the Pocomoke in early Oct. 2005 and 2006 for club tournaments and enjoyed it immensely. Given the recent mild weather, temps today should be similar to both of those years at around 60 degrees if not warmer. Both were 3 day affairs (1 day practice, 2 days tournament). There were a variety of successful patterns. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits were the ticket for me fishing downstream from Shad Landing. My partner and I would fish pad edges and the mouths of cuts and streams when the tide was outgoing. If the water is warm enough, buzzbaits and poppers can work well. Others in our club had success fishing upstream of Snow Hill using a variety of lures including crankbaits, spinnerbaits and soft plastics. To go upstream of Snow Hill you will need to call the town to arrange opening the bridge. Nassawango Creek is also popular although my success has been modest. Finally, find the access downstream to the golf course pond. It will be on the left side as you go downstream a short ways before the Rt. 13 bridge. Its a small opening but the canal (300 yards) can hold a suprising number of fish as can the pond. Checking out some satellite photos of the entire area can be helpful. Be prepared to catch plenty of small bass and some sizeable pickerel. Let us know how you do.
