Difference between 150 and 175 fast strike

Is there any way to tell besides the cowl and serial number. The reason I ask is I just bought a boat with a 1991 Johnson 150 Fast Strike. Well the previous owner bought it ten years ago from a "pro" who told him it had the 175 on it but he changed the cowl and numbers so it would fall in to the 150 restrictions.

I don't know and it's not a big issue to me or I wouldn't have bought it. But curiosity is getting to me.
