evinrude starter

i have a 1972 evinrude 40hp model number 40253E the starter stopped working so i took it off and removed the end with the gear. when i looked down in it at the brushes i noticed the terminal wire was not connected. this is where im at. i think i can take the four screws out of the sides of the body of the starter and pull the bottom off and repair the wire, but the 4 straight head screws will not budge. does anyone know of a way to get these out without detroying the screws? thanks Dennis

Put it in a vice and use an impact driver to break them loose. An auto alternator shop should be able to fix you up.

when you say impact driver are you talking about one you hold in your hand and hit with a hammer. or an air driver
