    fixing gouges/scratches

Is it possible to repair a deep hook scratch on a rod? I have a 6'6" St croix Premier that I use for topwaters like poppers, spooks etc. Near the hook hanger there is one gouge practically down to the blank, and a bunch of scratches in the finish. How, if possible, could someone like me who has never done more than replace a tip, go about filling this on or fixing it? is it possible? is it worth it to try?

Personally I would just leave it be. You could put some permagloss over it, but anything you do is probably going to be visible. Any sanding is could open up the possiblity of messing up the blank as well.

actually, I think the perma-gloss would hide it. Maybe try some clear finger nail polish ( laquer) first. I think it'll work fine.

    I never had a \"10\".....but, one night, I did five \"2\'s\"

I was thinking if the blank had a matte finish it might show up with a glossy spot - I don't know what's on the particular blank. Never worked with them.

it is a glossy rod, not matte. the deep scratch is right at the hook hanger near the foregrip. I am not too concerned with looks, I just want to keep it protected there and thought it might cause a weak point where it's gouged
