    Rod building

I am new to rod building but I have a few custom rods built by others. I was wondering if anyone on here applies the finish really thick in front of the forgrip and if so whats the best technique. Do you do it in multiple coats or let the finish thicken and apply it really thick to this area. I am building a spinning rod and Im am wanting this type look and feel. It takes the place of a winding check. I hope this makes sense. Any and all help appreciated. thanks Brad

    Re: Rod building (kycurs)

sounds like you are talking about an epoxy ramp? use the 5 minute stuff, goop it on there while its spinning and use a spatula to flatten it out.. apply some heat to get it to lay down. then wrap over it and apply regular finish.

there are some good articles on rodbuilding.org on the subject.
