painting weights and jig heads....questions again

So, last night I spent like 2 hours painting all my bullet weights and jig heads. I got 2 bottles of the powder type paint, went to town. (brown pumpkin and black)

So, how do you get the paint on there smooth and even on all sides. All mine came out kinda lumpy. I think I was getting the weight too hot before dipping it.

What I found worked best (when i was all but finished) was to heat up the weight very very slightly, then dip it so that it barely coats, but doesnt quite melt all the paint because it cooled too quickly. Then i would heat the head again, lightly, to finish melting the paint. I got my best results this way (but they still dont look anywhere near as good as what you buy in the store.

I dont particulary care about durability of the paint as I have so many, and that paint. If they chip, I'll just dip them again. It only takes a second to do.

Just looking for general discussion on painting heads.

    THX

Stick them in the oven to heat cure the paint, I think I bake mine at 250 degrees for about twenty or thirty minutes

how bad is it if I skip this step? I can tell you, my wife will NEVER allow me to do this step. The wife wont allow this in either the big oven or the toaster oven.

I do'nt sure mine head sin the oven, either. I find that the paint stays on thier pretty good...its gonna chip a little if you are fishign the the rocks...but like like you said, it only takes a second to re-paint the heads.

i just picked up a cheap little toaster over to bake mine in works good i go 350* for about 15 minutes and im good to go

as far as the lumpyness you might have to experiment with how long to put the flame on them when heating them up it dont take a lot to get the paint on and i try and put them in and pull them out pretty quick so not to get to much on them

if you get some lumps you can normally kind of rub it off on the lip of the powder paint jar before it dries solid and they normally come out ok and pretty slick

Use a heat gun and go over it and it should smooth out. If you have a heat gun?
Matter of fact if you have the heat gun you can use it to heat the weight and then dip. Then put it under it again to smooth it out. You can also add different colors this way to.

Dip it with you base color and then heat a little bit more and sprinkle on differnt colors. You get some pretty good effects that way.
