    Is this Legal in Tournament

My partner and I have been going back and forth on this and wanted to get some outside opinions. While fishing a tournament is it legal to put Broken up pieces of Alka Seltzer inside a Tube? Smallmouth go nuts over the fizzing. I have serched numerous tourny rules and do not see anything prohibiting this. We have not used this in tourny basically because we could not agree if legal or not.

I have used it before in my tournaments. The rules state no live bait. The smallmouths do go crazy over it. This trick made a believer out of me. I will be using it again this spring.

Re: Is this Legal in Tournament (Puma Jim)

I've fished a bunch of tournaments on the NBAA circuit in Michigan and also the BFL circuit in Detroit. This is a fad that is catching on now that more and more people have heard of it. I'd be willing to bet that in a few short years it ma ybe outlawed. Until then, it was never banned by any tournament I fished. Now I live in the south, and largemouth are a little too spooky for it. Just a trick...take a dropper (like a kids medicine dropper) with you and fill it with garlic scent. After breaking up the seltzer, put two or three drops on it just prior to flipping the tube. I've got some musky along with other bass that came from no where even after I caught the smally......

When Man's Kangaroo worm first hit the market I filled the pouch with Alka-Seltzer..worked pretty good at times.

This isn't new. We had Alka-Seltzer in our tackle boxes 2 decades ago and I'm sure they were there long before that.

Old as the hills. My grandfather showed me the ol' alka seltzer trick for big largemouth on the bed. Slit a lizard and pop in a piece of seltzer tablet. Cast it in the bed and it drives her crazy. Looks like the lizard is tearing up the bed for the eggs.

yep! I have seen FIZZ baits for years, and a couple of bait companies have fizz tablets that supposedly put off heat, therefore drawing a fish in closer in cooler water...hahahahahaha. I doubt that the fish can sense a heat increase of that small degree and discern it as something to eat....but then again, I am not a marine biologist either. I can see smallmouth destroying a tube that is bubbling! Maybe it would mimic a goby feeding on the bottom....hmmmmmmm.
