    Bow fishing?

Went camping this past weekend and my son buddied up with the kid next door. His dad took them both out to shoot at some garr. My son is now hooked and wants me to get him some gear. He's 8 and small for his age, so whats the lowest draw weight bow that I could get for him that would still do the job? Right now he's doing ok in the back yard with a 15lb recurve, but I'm thinking thats not going to be enough.

I've never bow fished, but several of my buddies do. I know it doesn't take much. Their bow fishing gear are just just cheap little bows that they bought at walmart on sell. I'll try to find out some more from them if I can.

Hit the pawn shops for recurve bows, around 15lbs draw for kids should be enough,
If you want to go new you can find packages with everything. Watch out it is a addictive sport especially if you like to hunt and fish it is the best of both worlds.
I think the adult bows are from 35 to 55lbs.

If he can shoot the 15 let him shoot it. if he can shoot a 25 get one but if its hard for him to pull it'll wear him out. Its more important to be able to fire off quick shots than shoot fast arrows 95% of the time. thats why most people shoot recurves.

Really the best thing you could do if he's shooting the 15# is to buy you a rig too and then you can back him up. If he loses some because he's not penetrating well then you can shoot em too and get em in. Plus I would imagine that shooting the same fish with your dad would be cool to an 8 year old.

get you a 40#-50# with a Zebco 888 Great White and some 200# Fast Flite line. And some Muzzy arrows with gar tips.

I shoot a PSE Kingfisher and an Impala... <$100 for the Kingfisher.

check out http://bow.fishingcountry.com You might be able to pick him up a used outgrown set-up cheap

Come up to Mid TN and we'll take ya'll out on our rigged up boat one night.

15 lbs. is enough for him to start out. The weight of the arrow will do most of the work. As he gets bigger you can upgrade him to a heavier bow. A recurve works best for bowfishing.

Get him what ever he can handle. Then get you a recurve and set both up for bow fishin'. Be very careful, you can have a very fun day catchin' bass in the mornin' and shootin' carp in the afternoon. Man I might hide mine in the boat this weekend.
