    How to remove Steering cable?

I am ready to remove the engine to begin my restoration and I have everything disconnected from the motor except the steering cable. i need help, I loosen the nut on the steering wheel end but I cannot get the cable inside disconnected. On the motor side, I cannot get the nut off due to the cable feeling like it is in a bind.
    Thanks for any help.

Cut the cable at the motor end and replace the cable.

Sorry to ask but since I am new to the boating world..... Are you SERIOUS? Cut It? This is not removable and reusable? It worked fine last week.

    Thank you

You can remove it but you need to get the nut on the cable loose at the engine, you can take the motor off the back of the boat and then try to get it loose.....or you can cut it, your restoring anyway might as well replace the steering too.

Ok I was able to get the nut loose at the engine and I cand pull the cable out some. There is the steel cable inside the shaft. Do I keep pulling until it is free or is there anything else that needs to be loosend? Also how to I disconnect the cable from behind the steering wheel?
Thank you for taking the time to answer this for me, if this does not work then I will cut it.
    Thanks,

it's a bit hard to describe without pictures, but generaly, once you remove the nut at the motor end, the cable just slides out (as long as it is not rusted), sometimes you need to remove the motor to get it right out (this depends on the boat design) at the steering wheel end, it will have a retaining bolt, that goes through a slot in the outer cable, remove it and then, the wheel is turned to just wind the cable out, it is just like a long flexible bolt(sort of) you just keep turning untill it is all out, there is another system like a rack and pinion system, but it is removed in a similar way, by the way, the retaining bolt is behind the dash on the steering "box"
