'96 150 fast stirke questions

hey guys,

i have a '92 ranger 482v with a '96 johnson fast strike 150. i have a 6" cmc jackplate also, and i am running a 4 blade 24 pitch prop. just have a couple quick questions.

the previous owner installed the motor brand new on this boat. i do not have a system check gauge, but last year i over heated the motor and it shut it down to safety mode and i got the horn alarm. so does this mean i have the system check system, just no gauge?

also, what should i be getting for speed out of this boat? i am running low-mid 50's at aproximately 52-5300 rpm, i also have a 23 pitch renegade prop, as a spare, should i be running this prop instead? i really try to baby this motor, and run as little rpm as i can, but i am just curous. i really dont run wot that often.

Nope you would have a system check gauge with LED's for the associated alarm either in a 2 1/8" gauge or incorporated in to the tach. If that is your wide open RPM you are on the low end of the scale. You should check your relationship between the pad and the nose cone of the motor. Level the trailer and then level the motor to the trailer. Measure from the ground/floor to the bottom of the pad, record this number then measure the distance from the ground/flooer to the centerline of the prop shaft or the center of the nose cone. Subrtact the two and that will give you the distance that the prop is below the pad. A good place to start is 3.5" below. You need a water pressure gauge to start making adjustments if you don't have one. 18 PSI at WOT is the minimum I would let it get down to. On most of the Rangers I get in most of the owners are running the gade for better hole shot and lift. Hope this helps.

I would never contradict the great one CM, but here is what I am running. 96' 482 VS with a 6" Slidemaster plate. Pad to center shaft is dead on 3.0". I am running a 24" Fury @ 5400 rpm's at 64.8 mph on gps. The boat will launch out of the hole and mid range accelleration is awsome. The Fury lifts the bow of the boat like no other prop that I have ran................24 Raker, 25 Tempest Plus, and 26 Raker just to mention a few. Water pressure on my ride at WOT and full usable trim is right at 26 lbs. These boats need to run a prop that will pull the nose of the boat up to really run best and to date the Fury is the only prop that will do that on my boat. Oh I forgot..................my engine is a 96 FastStrike 150 !!!!!.......................Roger

thanks for the tips guys. i will do some playing with it and post up some numbers. how does the fury work in rough water? does it stick as good as a 4 blader?
