1995 Johnson 225 Venom is giving me trouble AGAIN

    Hello again everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted and checked in to see whats going on. My fault I know, but here goes. My Johnson 225STLEOB lost the #2 piston and cylinder recently and I have been looking for a machine shop in N. Texas that can re-sleeve or bore the block.
Second question is will a 1987 Evinrude 225 block and the 1995 225 Johnson block interchange. I will go back with all new internals if it is possible.

    Thanks in advance

Did you open up #2 carb and it went? And have you decarbed regularly? They are two different blocks. Not saying they wont work but they are two different blocks and need some research as far as making the swap.

When I bought the boat in 2006 it had not been decarbed from my understanding in quiet a while. I did decarb at least once a year and twice in 2008. The engine had a lean sneeze at idle when i purchased the boat and after replacing all the fuel system components possible, I thought I had fixed the problem. I noticed that it would not come out of the hole at all and had lost around 500 rpm's. I went and had a compression test performed at #2 had 25 psi, the remaining holes had 115-125 psi , I pulled the plug and it was ugly. Hole through the piston and a nice groove etched in the cylinder wall. The ring must have came loose a while back, the piston was horribly beat up along with the head.
I have a spare 1987 Evinrude 225txcub powerhead. I would like to use the block if possible and by new or use my Johnson stuff to complete the motor.

What happened i bet was that the piston ring locating pin came loose. This is what destroyed my 1993 200 gt last year.I had just found out about increasing the jet size in number 2 to help it run a little cooler but it was too late.

One thing I remember about the '87 was the bore size was only 3 1/2 ", your's is larger. I'm not sure about the adaptation, but you might be mixing a lot of apples and oranges with this one.
