I am looking at a boat with a 01 225 Johnson HO. Is this a reliable motor? Also, the current owner mixes the gas and oil directly. Is this something to be concerned about?
Thanks,
Chris

Yep sounds like the current owner has disconnect the OMS system.
Sorry don't have the model numbers. i haven't purchased the boat and didn't get the model number.
Running the motor with the gas and oil mixed together shouldn't be a problem? or could that possibly mean that there is another issue wth the motor?
Mixing your own does not mean there is a problem, some people prefer to over the VRO. I as most of the people here prefer to keep the VRO system hooked up.

Nope only means he didn't trust the VRO/OMS pump a lot of people do that (misinformed) very solid motors and pretty quick. The oil to fuel mix ratio is 50:1 gas to oil.
Mine has been running strong since it was born. No problems yet other than normal wear and tare. I like mine, simple to take care of especially when you have the good pros you have here. See above!![]()
I like mine and I went a step further using XD-100 oil and it runs better !!!
Thanks for all the replies. I took the boat out for a test drive and it ran good when it was up on the pad, but, it did not idle well and would bog down unless I hit the throttle all the way down. Makes me a little uncomfortable that the carbs may need a rebuild.
