how to check to see if one is to lean

You can look at the plugs I believe, correct me if Im wrong but the lean plug will have a light brown discoleration, no oil residue either... but double check me on that.

At idle, or running down the lake?

At idle, it should spit, running down the lake you would need to put a new set of plugs in it, and run it around for a little bit at WOT, and then shut it off while running WFO, and see what color the plugs are. They should be the color of chocolate malt, like ovaltine, or darker.
