Help! 1998 Ficht problems

Hello first let me say that this is a great site and the people here are great to share their knowledge like they do. Thank You.

I have a 1998 Ficht Model No. E150FPLEEA Serial No. G04543390. Motor has had at least the updates for a 1999. Kit P/N-5001482 upgrade kit. as for any others I do not know.

I have only had this boat since last June and here in Nebraska you don’t get to use a boat long enough during the year to hardly get the bugs out if there is any.

My problem is this. The motor starts fine when it is first started but after it has been run for a while it is very hard to start sometimes taking 20 plus attempts. And when it does start it will rev up and smoke excessively and reek of raw fuel. I might mention that it has never failed to start just takes a long time. I was just living with the problem until fall so I could get it to a shop to have it looked at when the CK engine light started coming on. A simple stop and restart would keep light off however.

I have it at my local dealer and there are no codes. 189 hours on engine. And the compression for all six cylinders is good. They say that when the air intake cover is removed that all intakes are spitting fuel and oil mix out the front. A bunch of fuel! Getting way too much fuel.
They are stumped and are waiting for return phone calls on the matter, as they have only worked on a few of these motors. Any ideas?

i had a similiar issue with a 1999 200 ficht.the end result was the ecu had gone bad.the mechanic sent the ecu and the injectors to dfi technologies to get rebuilt and remapped.once that was done it was a whole new engine!it ran like it should have from the start!i think the whole process ran me like 800 bucks.i was told those engines had a lean spot in the mixture which had to be cured anyway.

If the check engine light came on there should be a code in the computer. Your problem sounds familiar... I have the exact same problem. Mine will be in the shop with in the next couple weeks.

My computer was throwing code 12,13,14 which all have to do with the throttle position sensor....however it is possible that I have a bad computer and will have to get it reprogrammed. Going to get a new TPS within the next two weeks and hopefully that will fix my problem. Had my boat out 1 time in January and 1 time so far in February and have not had the first issue I hope it is not a bad computer

Update, dealer calls last night and says good news we got it fixed. They overhauled the fuel pump. Diaphragm in the pump had a hole in it and was allowing too much fuel to be pumped. Dealer says that it actually acts like an evinrude now.

I still don’t understand why there were no codes as the buzzer coming on was not my imagination. The CK engine light must have came on at least 10 times late last season.
Going to be a long wait to see if it is actually fixed or if that is just one of the problems it has.

By the way I’m jealous when I read that some of you guys get to use your rigs all winter.

I don't have any comments relating specifically to yours but was hoping you could help me solve one of mine.

I have a 1999 Evinrude Ficht on a 1999 Champion 186. I bought it last years. The warning lights all work fine but the buzzer doesn't work. I'm guessing the buzzer is bad but I don't know where it's located.

Could you give me an idea as to where the buzzer sound is comming from yours. Even if you own a different boat I was thinking it maybe similar to mine since it's has to do with the engine controlls.

Without being there I would say that your alarm is behind the dash somewhere near the gauge. It may even be part of or connected to the back side of the gauge. If my boat was home I would look for you. That sure looks like my gauge though.

That looks like mine also. I relocated mine to the dash as it was down by the switch and couldn't see it very well. I moved my volt meter gauge down where the alarm was lower right side of the boat beside the key switch, I found my buzzer just behind the side of the drivers seat behind the panel where the switch key is.
