    Not getting fuel...???Vacuum switch???

Ok its a 85 ranger with a 85 johnson 150, today I went out and as im running to my first spot my motor looses power makes some weird noise then dies, she fires right back up and is fine for a little bit then she starts sputtering and idleing rough and dieing and I try sqeezing the primer ball and relize that it isnt really that hard, I shut her down and sqeez the ball a little and notice that when I sqeeze it I hear a little hisss noise coming from the vacuum switch. Is that normal? I dont really remember if it did it befor just something I notice now. I know that this is something to do with fuel just not quite sure what, just did my vro about a month ago so that is why im thinking maybe the vacuum switch, could this be the problem? If not Any help as to what els it could be would be great. Hope its not the vro again......

I would look at the primer bulb and the anti-siphon valve and check all of the connections from the tank to the motor.

Do you have the updated alarm horn that beeps when the key is turned on? The vacuum switch monitors the fuel flow and sounds the alarm over 5,000 RPM notifing the operator of a fuel restriction problem and will cause a lean out condition, it will not effect performance though.

Turn key to the on position, does alarm sound when the key is turned there?

The vacuum switch is more of a monitor as it monitors the fuel flow going to the motor. Once the RPM get above 4,500 if the fuel flow to the motor isn't sufficient the vacuum switch gets real nervous. It will set the alarm horn off to let the operator know of a possible fuel restriction leading to a lean out. The RPM will not drop though.

As Danrude stated check your primer bulb and hold it as vertical as possible when priming. Also you can remove the air box and remove a carb drain plug and purge any air out of the fuel system by pumping the bulb a few squeezes. Re-insert the plug and pump a few more times this may help. Make sure you have 3/8" hose all the way from the tank to the motor also.
