    LEESYLVANIA ?

I stopped by the State Park yesterday (on the boss's time).

I have only fished the Potomac once...actually it was Aqia creek, not the actual river.

I have always been a lake fisherman...Anna, Kerr etc, and am quite intimidated by the big river.

My fears are the obvious..... low water and under water objects.

Please help me with 2 questions.....if I put in here, what should I look for as far as navigation?

Secondly, where do I head to....to find fish??

    Thanks guys

Phil if you put it at Lees once you get outside the rock which are for wave breakers you will be in the channel in no time and as long as you stay in the middle of the river your in 30 feet of water. You an go directly across from the ramp at Leesylvania and you will be in Mattowoman Creek, or you can head just a bit south from Mattowoman and be in Chickamuxen Creek. You can stay on the VA side and run down past the big plant on the left and you will enter Quantico Creek, or you can fish main river grass. You should be able to catch fish at anyone of those places and not burn a tank of gas!

    Re: LEESYLVANIA ? (Gunny)

    Thanks Gunny

You are OK in my book, despite what these other guys say

Now that I have a map in front of me, I see what you are saying

I know Leesylvania has room for 200 trailers, and I saw some jet skies out there on Tuesday. It might be a stupid question, but what kind of a crowd can I expect to be on the water on a weekend??

    Thanks again

    phil

probably not this weekend...will probably be getting tires on the truck, motorhome inspected/oilchange etc

I am just looking around for when I DO get a chance to get back out.

I dont do much fishing in the summer BECAUSE of the crowds...other than a couple local electric only places.

I have to drive 2 hours to get ANYWHERE where the real water is...
    Anna/Potomac/Raystown, Pa etc

Phil, I don't get on the Potomac as much as Gunny, but do fish it a lot. I would definitely run straight across to Mattawoman for your first trip. It is an easy run. Most mornings are very calm, but the afternoon trip back can be rough sometimes. The key thing to try and do if it does get rough is to not be worried about running straight across the river. Sometimes you have to kind of follow the rollers like a surfer would ride a wave. Most days it is no worse than a day on the main lake at Anna. As for the fishing, it's no comparison to Lake Anna. 3/4/5#'s are common most days on the Potomac. Top water the tops of the grass matts and weedlines early in the morning. Spinnerbait and chatterbait the millfoil clumps and hydrilla, and jig around the wood and you should do well. I would be more than happy to meet you in Winchester and give you some tips and locations for your map if it would help you. James

The potomac rough???? you call that rough....ok so maybe the last time I was out there the person with me, thought we were going to die, he lost his hat/sunglasses, and almost lost a shoe.....but I didn't think it was that bad.....haha.

I really need to get out and fish the potomac more.....being how close I live its a travesty I don't. I just wish I had more time.
