    New River Jacksonville

Ok fellas is the Bass fishing good in this river? I have been here for a couple of months and bringing my boat back down with me to fish this tourney they have on the 6th of March from Camp Lejeune. Can anyone help a brother out? I am just curious of running this river is it pretty wide open? Plus I have been told up around the Navy Hospital is pretty good. Thanks...

    Re: New River Jacksonville (TR21ken)

I used to fish up above the bridge. A few miles up, there is a rather sharp right turn connected to a left turn. As you turn back to the left, stop and fish the vertical drop behind you. The river channel runs up against the bank and I've caught a ton of bass there. throw a green lizard up to the bank, the pull it off the ledge and catch some bass.

[] Go past the Naval Hospital and under the Hwy 24 bridge and past the old Drift
wood Club. Good area, hit the laydowns, stumps, etc.

[] Or go up river towards J'ville past the Hwy 258 bridge past the old seafood
restaurant, same stuff, soft plastic, SB', etc.

Alot of Black Fish (grinnel) and Jack Fish (chain pickeral) in that area around the old restaurant.

I did not like fishing tidal water (New River), but there are some good bass in there, Ordes Pond by 10th Marines has a few nice size fish.
