    Fuel economy difference?

I have a 98' Johnson Venom 200hp engine on my boat. I am thinking about re powering with a 225 engine. Any idea on what the new E Techs get for mileage compared to my 200 Venom? I am just trying to justify this to the wife Thanks.

    Re: Fuel economy difference? (WCCT)

I tried to justify switching from a Johnson 225HO carb model (2001) to an ETEC or OPTI or whatever. She was too smart for that!! Gas was $3.00 at the time. Last October, my lower unit crashed and insurance covered me, so I was able to get $4900 insurance on it. Then the dealer gave me $3000 for my top half!

When it broke, my wife said if it cost more than $4k to get it repaired, then I could get a new one. When the insurance company said my check was on the way, my wife agreed.

That gave me $7900 toward my new 225HO Etec. The engine is far superior to the old carb HO in every way. Fuel efficiency has gone from 2.25-2.75 mpg to 3.75-5mpg on the ETEC> It is much better if I don't run over 4k rpm. At that speed, my Cougar runs 50-53. If I stay around 40mph, I'll see 5mpg, maybe a tad better. It's awesome on fuel.

You'll have to do the math to justify to the missus though. GOOD LUCK!

    I love my ETEC.

I gotta say it wouldbe nice to have a new motor, but does the carb still run real good?. If it still strong you gotta ask yourself, How many years would it take to spend an extra 18K in fuel.
