I have a club tourney on Feb 27th. I've never fished there before. Anyone want to share info.
Thanks,

I've only been there once in February. I'm not sure there will be a pattern to follow just yet. I've heard anything from spinnerbaits to cranks to plastics. We went last year and pretty much stuck to texas rigged plastics and jigs and did pretty well. I've had great luck with larger profile baits that don't have too much wobble/wiggle. Stick to higher contrast colors if the water is low vis, and more natural colors if you've got a foot or more of vis. It's pretty straightforward, however, I'd stick to the warm arm (west branch) as the fishing might be a tad more predictable. Keep us posted on how you do, good luck!
Send me your email and I'll try and help you out .

Went there last Wednesday. Water was COLD!! Plant not running. Fished the warm neck all day. Caught one 4lbish on a beaver in a beaver dam(good place for it!!!) Caught 2 smaller fish on a chatterbait on secondary points right off the grass. Not sure on water temps.(no graph on the boat) Hope this helps.
Mesmerize Jigs.Performance Team Rods, Just add water bait and tackle
Saturday, me and a buddy caught 7 between us. It was slow. power plant was not running. Trolling only we're kinda limited to first few cuts around the ramp. biggest fish was maybe 4 lb. caught with jigs. one fish with spinnerbait. a couple with cranks. water temp was 56- 60.
What's been the best color of jigs and cranks to use.
I hear white jigs do well there but that is hearsay. I still have never been![]()

I don't subscribe to threads. PM if you need me.
I'll be going Saturday and plan on using green pumpkin/black and black/blue jigs, t-rigged craws for a smaller presentation, white spinnerbaits, and a mixture of cranks (shad, fire tiger, and green).
Is there a lot of fallen timber around the lake or any rocky shores? This is my first time going...
I have heard the same. I went in Feb once and white chatterbaits did well, if nothing shallow, try slow rolling them off points in deeper water. Caught some goods ones like that, they were grouped up pretty good.

Def stick to green pumpkin or black/blue jigs. And for some reason, the fish are never in the wood. Makes no sense to me because some of those laydowns look fantastic. I can't recall any rock. Pretty much just work the cuts, make long casts when you get to the backs of the cuts. I would just suggest rigging up a couple different presentations while you cover water initially. Try sight fishing too if possible, might give you better perception on how the fish are behaving....
There will be two other people with me so I think everyone will have their certain technique they like to use, so that should help to find out whats working...
I was there Saturday and did very well fishing in the area of the discharge. Long ride up there with the trolling motor but worth it. Dragging Poor Boy's Bugs on a 1/4 jig. I got a 6 and 4 within 10 minutes in that area.

Boy I am getting excited reading these post! I cant wait for tomorrow to come.
Thanks for all of your input. As I had stated, this was my first trip to Newton. Todays results: 1 keeper, 4.13# caught with a blue/chrome Bomber, 6-8' runner. Caught on one section of rip rap section just right (1/8 mile) from discharge tube. Yeah, I know, that was a sunny skies bait and it was overcast all day. Guess that bass didn't read the same "how to catch bass" book.
We came in 2d. Winner caught one 6.99 with a Bandit 200 shad and purple back(or so he said). Team mate caught a lot of fish in the 16" range, but no keepers. Another member had a keeper that he caught with a black/blue Chatterbait.
I snagged a 20-25# carp in the dorsal fin with a craw crankbait. Got it to the boat and partner didn't want to chance breaking the net to bring it in. Immediately after, fish pulled loose.
Again....thanks for the input. If I can return the favor in my neck of the woods; just give a shout.
It was a pretty cold and windy day but mustered up 3 bass. First bass was about 4.5 lbs, second 3lbs, and the third 4lbs. Would have had a 4th but the bass was a damn acrobat and jumped horizontally out of the water at 100mph lol. All bass were caught on a black and blue jig.
Here was one of the bass I was able to pull out of the lake.
